Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! I will be teaching your child ELA (reading, grammar, spelling, writing). I will try to follow the homework helpline assignments as best I can. As always, there may be some unforeseeable events. Please keep in mind we need to have an open line of communication for you the student/parent to have a great year.

Week of November 11, 2019

Welcome back!  Students in my homeroom that have earned perfect attendance or have had 2 absences in the 1st marking period, will be able to dress down tomorrow Wednesday Nov. 13.  They can wear a blue shirt with jeans or sweats.  Only those students who had the attendance paper in their report card envelope.

Penny wars will run until Friday November 15.  All profit goes towards PBIS.

November 27th we will be visiting with local veterans.  They will be visiting our school.  We will be collecting donations for them; paper will come home Friday.

Thanksgiving break is from Thursday Nov 28 through Monday Dec 2.  Classes resume Tuesday Dec. 3.

Spelling list unit 1 week 4 vowel digraphs test will be Friday November 15.  Students have had the list since last week.  We have been working on creating columns by breaking them down be vowel digraphs, alphabetical order, finding the incorrectly spelled word amongst 4, and writing them if they were spelled wrong for homework.  If a student did not do the spelling words 4x each correctly, a white paper of lined paper was stapled to the homework with the wrong ones marked.  Each list word that was written wrong must be written 25x for tomorrow.  This was a spelling assignment which should have been done correctly.

Grammar test will be Thursday November 14.  The topic is run-on sentences.  The students must be able to fix the run-on two ways:  add a punctuation mark to make 2 simple sentences, or add a comma conjunction to make it a compound sentence.  Students have been practicing this.

Period 1 has run on homework and corrections..
Period 2 has spelling homework and corrections..
Period 3 has run-on homework, spelling homework and corrections.

Have a great night!
Mrs. Herring

Miss Brobst's class has a grammar worksheet for homework.  It is reinforcing imperative and exclamatory sentences to prepare for Wednesday's test. Mrs. Herring's class has a scavenger hunt for Lewis, Clark & Me.  Answers can be found in the story.  The backside has vocabulary to be used as a review for Thursday's test. AR goals were stapled in your child's assignment book.  October goals are 5 points or higher.  Goals need to be met by October 30th. October 27 is the Halloween party.  Please send $5.00 in for party supplies. Have a great week! Mrs. Herring

Back to School Week!!! August 29, 2016

WELCOME BACK!! Where has the time gone from the end of 3rd grade to the start of 4th grade? Today was a great day!  We will be building confidence, communication skills and relationships with the fellow classmates. This week we will be "getting to know" each other through multiple activities, reviewing policies and procedures and expectations.  I will also be administering DIBELS and DAZE tests to see how the students comprehend and use vocabulary skills. Parents, please return the paperwork that was sent home at Meet the Teacher or with your child today if you missed Meet the Teacher.  I would like papers back by September 7th.  Book orders will be going home on Friday with your child in their Friday folder. They are due back by September 9th.  The more books the students order, the more classroom books we can earn for free.  There is online ordering available as well.   I am looking forward to a great year! Have a great week, Mrs. Herring...
