Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! I will be teaching your child ELA (reading, grammar, spelling, writing). I will try to follow the homework helpline assignments as best I can. As always, there may be some unforeseeable events. Please keep in mind we need to have an open line of communication for you the student/parent to have a great year.

Week of March 27, 2017

Spelling List 17 Encantado each due Tuesday.  Students are to make 5 columns (-ar, -er-, le, -en, -al) and write #1-20 in each corresponding column.  Test is Friday. Reading : Paul Bunyan test tomorrow. Grammar:  Irregular verb tenses test tomorrow. For the remainder of the week, we will continue to work on mastering standards we are so close to. We will be looking at writing samples and the scoring rubric to see why the prompt got the grade it did. Our class basket for the Chinese Auction is baking supplies.  Please send in your items so we can give the donation to PTO. The 4th grade field trip is May 17th.  Parents that have signed up and have their PTO clearances may attend for a minimal fee. NS will NOT be in session on Good Friday.  Classes will resume Easter Monday. Have a great week! Dress down $1 on Friday, Mrs. Herring

Spelling pretest Monday The Case of the Gasping Garbage ; 3x each in cursive due Tuesday if you don't earn advance on pretest; take apart the contraction due Wednesday; choose 15 words and write a good sentence due Thursday; posttest Friday. Grammar   Irregular Verbs Lesson review workbook pages 225 & 232 to prepare for test on Friday Reading   Paul Bunyan  students should review vocabulary in notebook, study workbook page 224 for test on Tuesday March 28.              Writing assignment will be assigned Tuesday, due Thursday.  Using the prompt at the bottom              of workbook page 224, discuss the changes in nature that take place as your favorite season                approaches.  Use the vocabulary words, use your senses to get the readers attention.  You may              make this into a newscast or a letter to a friend that may not experience these changes. Spelling List 16 The Case of the Gasping Garbage pretest on the next official day of school. Reading The Eye of the Storm test on the next official day of school.  Study vocabulary. Social Studies (M) Lesson 13-15 with corresponding activities; (H) Lesson 14-15 with corresponding activities due on the next official day of school. Students may wear shorts to school, but we do go outside for recess. Friday is a dress down day for $1.00. The next official day of school is Day 8 Art.  Please DO NOT wear gym clothes. Tonight and tomorrow

March 6 Spelling homework list 15 singular and plural possessive nouns/pronouns 3x each. March 7 Spelling homework list 15 use each spelling word in a sentence that will show me you know the meaning of the word.  Test is Friday. Grammar is past, present, future tense verbs.  Test is Thursday. Reading is Eye of the Storm and test is next week. Have a great night, Mrs. Herring
