Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! I will be teaching your child ELA (reading, grammar, spelling, writing). I will try to follow the homework helpline assignments as best I can. As always, there may be some unforeseeable events. Please keep in mind we need to have an open line of communication for you the student/parent to have a great year.

Calendar of Events for May

May 1 and 8 school will be extended until 345. May 1st is all day beginning band practice.  Students need to have a lunch from home if they have not turned in a slip for lunch from the school.  We will walk to the high school.  If it is raining, we will be bussed. May 2-3 is science PSSAs. May 4 is April's reward.  We will be walking over to the swimming pool.  Students must have a permission slip on file to participate.  Students also have to meet the requirements set forth on the behavior plan in the handbook.  If they haven't, they will stay back in a 4th grade classroom. Swimmers may bring goggles.  Be sure to have a towel or 2.  Rain date will be May 9th. May 5 any chaperone going on the field trip and approved by PTO needs to have their money in. May 8-12 is book fair.  Our day to shop is May 11, but students may shop throughout the week, time permitting. May 8 4th grade is participating in Laps for Healthy Lungs.  We will be walking around the hs track. Stude

April 20, 2017

Students were given their social studies take home test today.  They can use lessons 19, 27, & 28 to complete the test.  The test is due back on Monday, no excuses unless absent. AR goals are due by April 28. Social Studies biography bottle buddy is due May 11th.  You have had this since April 11th.  Do not wait until the last minute. Spelling test tomorrow. Reading test tomorrow on sequence of events. We will continue working with pronouns tomorrow. Math PSSAs will be Tues-Wed-Thurs of next week! Have a great weekend! Mrs. Herring

Week of April 17, 2017

Spelling:  Students received their final spelling list today.  It is a cumulative review of previous lessons with the bonus words being words from lessons we haven't covered.  If the student didn't earn an advance or proficient, then they have 3x each, cursive #1-25.  This is different...1-25!!  Test is Friday. Grammar:  We are discussing subject and object pronouns, demonstrative and reflexive pronouns. We completed workbook pages 261 and 268 today.  Test is Thursday.  The students will list the 4 types and the pronouns that follow each type, as well as identify the different types of pronouns in the sentences. Reading:  Review page 269 in the workbook.  We will be having a sequence assessment on Friday. There is nothing to study, just be sure you know your time order words and can follow directions. Social studies bottle buddy is due May 11th. AR goals need to be met.  Keep reading! Friday is a dress up day for $1.00.  Information went home last week. Have a great

Thursday April 13

Just a reminder there is NO school tomorrow.  Classes will resume on Monday, Day 7 Art.  Please DO NOT dress for gym. Also, next week is career week.  We have 1 parent signed up to discuss his career with the class.  If you would like to come in, please get in touch with me and we can set up a day and time. Week of April 10

Spelling test will be next week, Friday April 21.  The list will be sent home next Tuesday. Reading test will be on the skill of compare & contrast.  We will be reading the Case of the Gasping Garbage to see examples of and discuss compare & contrast.  Test will be Thursday. Grammar we discussed singular and plural pronouns today.  I will assess tomorrow and Wednesday we will continue with pronouns and look at subject and object pronouns. Social studies guidelines will be sent home on Tuesday.  The assignment is due May 11.  You may turn the bottles in sooner. Career week is next week.  If anyone is interested in coming in to talk to the class about your career, please let me know. Students are allowed to dress down tomorrow if they were here all last week and on time last week. No exceptions. Have a great week.  Enjoy Friday off and see you Monday. Mrs. Herring

Week of April 4, 2017

Students did a great job with their PSSAs today!  We will continue with ELA PSSAs through Friday. Next week in class we will discuss science topics and review math topics.  We will also have spelling, grammar and reading lessons. April behavior reward will be swimming at the high school pool in May.  Students can NOT get 1 check mark.  Permission slips were sent home last Friday.  Students will not be allowed to swim without a signed permission slip. 4th grade will be participating in Healthy Lungs Walk in May.  Any monetary donation will be accepted, if you are able.  Information was sent home on Friday. The lunch form for the May field trip was sent home on Friday.  If your child needs a school lunch, please fill it out.  If your child is packing own lunch, be sure everything can be thrown away when finished. 4th grade will be watching the Molly Maguires movie in May.  Permission slip was sent home. Students must have slip to watch.  It is rated PG, This weekend is the Chi
