Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! I will be teaching your child ELA (reading, grammar, spelling, writing). I will try to follow the homework helpline assignments as best I can. As always, there may be some unforeseeable events. Please keep in mind we need to have an open line of communication for you the student/parent to have a great year.

Parents and supporters: We had a hallway meeting yesterday to reinforce a few things.  Student responsibility.  Students are not getting homework done, classwork done or tests.  Students are not showing responsibility, and it is affecting their grades.  Please talk to your child about being responsible:  writing down assignments, completing them in a timely manner in class, using time wisely, and completing homework.  There have been messes in the bathrooms:  toilet paper strewn, soap smeared on mirrors and personal matter.  Please review bathroom etiquette with your child. Recess is not a place for hard balls or Frisbees. These must be Nerf and may not be played with everyday.  It will vary. Field trip and lunch papers for field trip have been sent home today.  Please fill out the forms and return them.  If you want to be a chaperone, please notify me ASAP. Dress code:  just because shorts are allowed doesn't mean shorts should be worn.  We do go outside for recess.  We don

March 14, 2019 Write a Newspaper Article

In periods 1 & 2, students are writing a newspaper article.  I suggested last evening that students think of/research an animal that returns to the same place every year (migrating).  Today in class, 6 students were able to use Chromebooks to gather information, other students were looking through newspapers to see what was included in a newspaper, and others were starting their assignment.   At the bottom of the vocabulary worksheet, the specifics for the assignment are there.  In case your child loses the paper, here are the specifics again.  Write a newspaper article about an animal that returns to the same place every year.  Remember to include a title.  (I am not requiring vocabulary words.)   This assignment is due Monday, March 18th.  Students should have a nice neat final copy.  Spelling and punctuation should be correct.  Newspaper articles contain factual information.  If you would like to include a picture, that is optional.

Good morning!  An important paper is coming home in Friday folders regarding a presentation in grades 3-12.  Please be sure to review it, look at the attached link, and follow through with permission to attend or not.  Only return the form if you DO NOT want your child to participate.  Students are expected to be in school if they are not participating. Spelling for next week for periods 1 & 2...students are correct in saying pretests have stopped.  Students will receive their list for the next 5 tests.  The test for U4W1 will be on Friday March 15.  Please study with your student to help prepare for the upcoming test.  Students can study ahead as well. Grammar will be discussing helping and main verbs for periods 1 & 2.  Verbs are not new.  Students have been exposed to verbs forever, but we are introducing more complex words.  Helping verbs are the 1st word in the verb phrase and it helps the main verb.  Main verbs are the 2nd word in the verb phrase. Have a great week!
