Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! I will be teaching your child ELA (reading, grammar, spelling, writing). I will try to follow the homework helpline assignments as best I can. As always, there may be some unforeseeable events. Please keep in mind we need to have an open line of communication for you the student/parent to have a great year.

May 9, 2019

These last few weeks have been a whirlwind!

There were concerns regarding the last progress report.  Please keep in mind the students and staff were busy preparing and completing the PSSAs, so there weren't many grades to be included.  We are working very hard to make up for missed time.

All periods are now back to the original reading book.  We will all be finishing up with the same stories, grammar and reading lessons.

There is a spelling test tomorrow on U4W5 list words.

There is a grammar test scheduled for next Tuesday.  The lesson is on irregular verb tenses.  Students have at least 6 worksheets in their red reading folders they can use to study from.

There is going to be a reading test next week also.  The story is Paul Bunyan.  We have started the vocabulary words this week and have talked about generalizations in the past and again.  All students have been asked to locate sentences from the story that show this is a tall tale.

In addition to academics, there are a lot of activities in the month of May.
May 10 Field trip lunch slips are due
May 13 All day 4th grade band rehearsal.  No electronic devices are permitted.  May wear gym clothes.
May 13 We will be walking around the stadium track for the American Lung Association Healthy Lungs Walk.  Students will walk for 1 hour to build their lungs.  If you would like to make a donation to the lung association, please send that in with your child.  There will be a short recap/presentation the following week.  Students may wear gym clothes.
May 14 4th grade field trip permission slips are due.
May 15 All day 4th grade chorus rehearsal.  No electronic devices are permitted.  Only chorus students may wear gym clothes.
May 17 4th grade field trip.  Students need to arrive on time.  Busses will pull out at 9am.  Students must wear dress code approved bottoms, a North Schuylkill t-shirt (black with green lettering preferably), and closed toe shoes.  We will return by regular dismissal.  Questions?  Contact me individually please kherring@northschuylkill.net.
May 18 Elementary concerts at the high school auditorium.
May 21  Spartan Games for those involved.  We will go over to see the mascot race.
May 22 Teens Against Tobacco activities.  Students may wear gym clothes.  American Lung Association presentation.

Back to School Week!!! August 29, 2016

WELCOME BACK!! Where has the time gone from the end of 3rd grade to the start of 4th grade? Today was a great day!  We will be building confidence, communication skills and relationships with the fellow classmates. This week we will be "getting to know" each other through multiple activities, reviewing policies and procedures and expectations.  I will also be administering DIBELS and DAZE tests to see how the students comprehend and use vocabulary skills. Parents, please return the paperwork that was sent home at Meet the Teacher or with your child today if you missed Meet the Teacher.  I would like papers back by September 7th.  Book orders will be going home on Friday with your child in their Friday folder. They are due back by September 9th.  The more books the students order, the more classroom books we can earn for free.  There is online ordering available as well.   I am looking forward to a great year! Have a great week, Mrs. Herring...

Miss Brobst's class has a grammar worksheet for homework.  It is reinforcing imperative and exclamatory sentences to prepare for Wednesday's test. Mrs. Herring's class has a scavenger hunt for Lewis, Clark & Me.  Answers can be found in the story.  The backside has vocabulary to be used as a review for Thursday's test. AR goals were stapled in your child's assignment book.  October goals are 5 points or higher.  Goals need to be met by October 30th. October 27 is the Halloween party.  Please send $5.00 in for party supplies. Have a great week! Mrs. Herring
