Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! I will be teaching your child ELA (reading, grammar, spelling, writing). I will try to follow the homework helpline assignments as best I can. As always, there may be some unforeseeable events. Please keep in mind we need to have an open line of communication for you the student/parent to have a great year.

This week we are reading Adelina's Whales which is fiction.  It is an amazing story about the gray whale and human contact.  Students worked on their vocabulary in their interactive notebooks.  If they didn't finish in class, they should finish at home.  Adelina's Whales also uses fact/opinion to organize the story.  Students in periods 1 & 2 have worksheets to complete on f/o and multiple meaning words.

In grammar, we will begin helping and main verbs.  Students are still struggling with verbs, so please encourage your child to find the verb in any written material.  Test will be Monday March 12.

Spelling list 13 How Night... pretest will be Monday March 12.

As of now, Friday is a paid dress down day.  Yes, it is also Spring pictures, PBIS reward, and AR reward.

Thursday, 4th grade will be listening to a guest speaker from Universal Forest Products.  Thursday is also "Dress Like Your Hero."  Heroes do NOT only include professional athletes, musicians, or actors.  Heroes can be firefighters, teachers, policeman, businessmen, moms, dads, plumbers, electricians, nurses, etc.

NIEW papers were sent home today with your child's Friday folder.  Read the newspaper, have a parent initial the NIEW paper, and return it to school on Monday.

Tickets for Friday's girls' game are on sale in the high school.

Clocks spring ahead on Sunday, so children may wear appropriate school code shorts on the 12th.

Parents, please send in the money for the Chromebook for the class basket for the auction.  We have only received 3 peoples' donations.

Have a great day!
Mrs.  Herring

Back to School Week!!! August 29, 2016

WELCOME BACK!! Where has the time gone from the end of 3rd grade to the start of 4th grade? Today was a great day!  We will be building confidence, communication skills and relationships with the fellow classmates. This week we will be "getting to know" each other through multiple activities, reviewing policies and procedures and expectations.  I will also be administering DIBELS and DAZE tests to see how the students comprehend and use vocabulary skills. Parents, please return the paperwork that was sent home at Meet the Teacher or with your child today if you missed Meet the Teacher.  I would like papers back by September 7th.  Book orders will be going home on Friday with your child in their Friday folder. They are due back by September 9th.  The more books the students order, the more classroom books we can earn for free.  There is online ordering available as well.   I am looking forward to a great year! Have a great week, Mrs. Herring...
