Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! I will be teaching your child ELA (reading, grammar, spelling). I will try to follow the homework helpline assignments as best I can. As always, there may be some unforseeable events. Please keep in mind we need to have an open line of communication for you the student/parent to have a great year. Looking forward to a great school year!!

January 25, 2018

Students have been super busy collecting money for the Boosterthon.  As of this morning, my homeroom had $25/lap raised.  We are very close to the $30 level as a class, which is a classroom surprise snack provided by me.  If the school raises $20,000, the principals will dress as queens and get pied in the face.  Let's keep making those donations!

Tomorrow is the Fun Run.  Students are encouraged to wear sweatpants and the field trip shirt.  If a student doesn't dress for the Fun Run, they must be in dress code school approved clothes.  NO JEANS!  The Fun Run will take place in the afternoon for 4th grade.

Monday is the PBIS reward.  If a student has earned all 4 stamps, they may dress down for the day.  Jeans, sweatpants, Spartan t-shirt, or dress code clothing.

Valentine's Day party is Friday February 9th, beginning at 2pm.  Students may bring in Valentines to share with their classmates.  If a treat is being sent in, please be sure it is store bought.  We will be providing a small orange drink and a treat.  We will make a simple Valentine's Day folder in class, but if you are making one with your child, please let me know.

The weather is still chilly, so please dress your child accordingly.  We do go out for recess if it is 30 degrees or warmer.

Have a great weekend,
Mrs. Herring

Academics for period 3.
Spelling:  Pretest Monday Animal Mimics list.  Students got a list today, and the word list is on page 287 in their "new" reading book.  3x each is due Tuesday and final test is Thursday.  This list is challenging!  Do not wait until the last minute.
Reading:  We will be reading Animal Mimics in class, using context clues to fin…

Week of October 22, 2018

Spelling What Jo Did 3x each will go home Tuesday evening, due back Wednesday.  Also, we will be writing 10 sentences for each spelling list.  I will be providing paper from this list forward.  Each sentence needs to be at least 5 words or longer, include punctuation, and capital letters.  Test is Friday.  If you ever need to look at the spelling list you can go onto Mrs. Laudeman's homework blog.

We will begin grammar this week, test next week.

We will begin the Horned Toad Prince in reading class.  Students have the vocabulary in their interactive notebooks.  They should be reviewing the meanings nightly.  The skill is author's purpose, which was a struggle when we did it 2 stories ago.

Please turn in party money if you haven't done so.  Halloween party/parade is October 31st at 1:30.  I sent home slips to the parents that are PTO approved.  Please send it back letting me know if you are available to help out or not.  Thanks!

Have a great week!
